watched a video during gp lecture today bout the evolution of beauty from the 19th century to the 20th century. its somewhat disheartening and disappointing to know what people would do to conform to the relative perspective of beauty. the 19th century fashion icon: corsets. its sooo painful to watch the video. people were practically using their hands and legs and pulling at the strings with all their might to achieve a non existent waistline. its so scary because their abdominal skeletal structure seems somewhat deformed! hips and boobs were accentuated but as good as they look, i can't imagine anyone going through that pain just to look good in a dress. i mean, exercising and prob a little bit of dieting is ok. but physical pain just to look good is NOT ok. oh, and i saw on tv recently, a true story of a girl who just couldn't stand her acne, she used a paring knife to slice them off from the surface of her face. then tried to use paint to cover the wounds. WTH?! evolution of fashion in the 20th century was cos of world wars. women were going out to work and stuff. and the pragmatic factor of clothes came in. so shorter dresses were made to allow more efficient walking. in case u didn't know, women in the 19th century not only used corsets on their upper body, but also on their lower body on their knees so that they would "walk daintily". im like ... i'd rather not walk at all. knee length dresses were created. baring legs. so came the shoe craze. the heels. i can't walk in heels for nuts. i think heels now are made with care, meaning they have the comfort factor considered. but heels then...my goodness. they showed x rays of deformities. i wonder how those women could walk in the first place. their big toe and little toe bones were jutting inwards under the rest of their toes. how could anyone even put the slightest weight on that?! my goodness. and now. the current trend. be stick thin, if not u're just fat. i dont mind losing a few kgs too. but i definitely don't wanna be stick thin! saw a woman at paragon on sunday. wearing a white fluffy top and black tights and her calves were thinner than my arms!! she looked like she was floating on air. i'm serious. ask cas, sherilyn, joy, mel if u don't believe me.and she's supposed to be a well known cosmetic surgeon. she prob does lipo on her calves! i'm also proud to say that i'm one of the dying breed of girls who actually FINISH THEIR FOOD. unless, of course, its unreasonably large in proportion or just plain yucky. sometimes the dishes are already sooo small in proportion and yet girls still don't finish! they like mentally set aside amount to not-eat and push it to the side of their plate even before they start eating. how do you know u'll be full if you haven't even started on it?! i just don't get it. but sigh... like heidi klum says:" in fashion, you're either in or you're out." woe to women.and notice...men weren't mentioned at all. how sexist is that. ugh.
