VCF FOC '07
my group
was placed in group jasper. although sapphire's group leader thought i was in his group too, but decided to stay in my group cos audrey was in it and it would be too troublesome to transfer her over too. no regrets staying in my group although by standards, the other group was more happening. but my group's special and really really nice :):):):)

gary aka gray. cos i was supposed to write his name tag for him, but almost spelled it wrongly. heh. trying to act dao in this pic. from taiwan, 23, year 4 science physics. turns out, he's from PHS too!! but when i was sec 1, he's already in J1 in CJC. anyway. he's a really great person. always shares really insightful opinions and forever deep in his thought. and he calls me grace! don't know why, but yeah :) a great group leader with lotsa weird antics that i don't know whether i should laugh or cry at. heh. always with a camera and always taking pics! every minute every sec!!

dawn!! the pink bunny!! 20 year 2 fass. she's soooooo small sized. and i remember seeing her bag on the first day of camp. i was so sure she could squeeze herself in the bag. the bag really looked bigger than her. so small and cute with a really nice voice and character. became close during the camp cos she's like a real great big sis to me. always taking care of us, making sure we got our food, water etc etc. suffered during the beach games and got bullied in practically every game. so we both were the feisty girls who tried to protest. but apparently, in vain. but its ok, we're not all bout winning anyway! love ya lots girl!!

audrey yim!!! 19 year 1 engineering. heh. dragged her along to the camp. though i think mostly she joined cos she thought i was pissed with her for backing out (right audrey?) but haha. i'm really really really glad you came to this camp audrey. and i meant every word i've written in the letter and my dedication to you on stage. (i know if you're reading this you'll get sooo touched, you'll cry again right?) but seriously, this camp would've never ever been the same or as fulfilling without you with me. i'm so glad you opened up and that made me open up too. i really hope this camp didn't just end on 12th july, but the experience will last with you forever. i know initially you felt uncomfortable, but you didn't give in. you joined each activity faithfully and with so much enthusiasm. there's no one else i'd rather be with in this camp than with you!! thanks for being so open. and hopefully you can join my church!!!! haha.

jonny!! jonny bravo :) 19 year 1 med. heh. no la. his real name is jonathan. and if you think he looks young. he is. he's my age. cos he's in medicine, he doesnt need to do NS first. and i seriously didn't know that. maybe they thought that if the smart students take 2 years off for NS, their brain won't work as well again. heh. my first impression was little-boy-shy-shy kind. but nah. he's friendly and not afraid to speak up. a real typical nice guy too. :) happy knowing him through this camp. and guess what. he was in the same class as celest in rjc during first 3 months. its a small world after all!

jasmine. a great person. 24 year 4 fass i think. she always shares really personal and deep feelings which takes a lot of courage because after all, we were strangers totally. really outspoken and knows how to encourage people. one of the most enthusiastic and fervent person for god i've seen so far.

gillian. ack! i don't know what's her age, what's her fac and which year she's in. heh. but she was in the camp com, so she was pretty much busy during the camp. but in the moments she was with our group, she was really nice and talked to me and audrey alot. was fasting during the camp. and really, she wasn't tempted with the food at all. during meal times, she'd just sit right there and talk to us while we're all eating. i couldn't have done that if i were her. :)

shawn. also in camp com, so wasn't around most of the time. but he was one of the night games station master and it was hilarious cos we were blindfolded and he kept calling me the girl in pink when i was in red. so i didn't respond to him at all. then he kept saying the girl in pink the girl in pink. and in my mind i was thinking, waliao, why the girl in pink don't just respond. waste time making us stand there blindfolded. turns out it was me. heh. but i was in RED. all in all, a really nice guy.
new friends :)

zoey :) zoey tay. haha. year 1, science. wants to do life science too! at first when she told me her name, i thought she was kidding. but its exactly zoey tay. haha. we cliqued from the first time we met. dont know why, maybe because we were both from neighbourhood co-ed schools and average jcs. heh. we met when we were on the science faculty tour. a really really fun girl. same character and lingo as me la. all the lah lees lohs and zabo. haha. teased each other, hit each other. wanted to dunk each other during the beach games. but she didn't manage to!! haha and hopefully, we'll get into the same group for science orientation week! i'm glad i made such a good friend like her within such a short period of time!!

songyang :) heh. 24, year 4, mech engine. our group was the latest group and we met him going for the camp alone. and we got lost together! sigh. we took one big round and walked in the opposite direction of the campsite when the campsite was actually just around the corner of the terminal. so there we were walking around lugging all my lingling longlongs. thank god songyang offered to help me carry my bag. so i helped him carry his shoebag :) which was loads lighter. a cute shy gentleman :) although it may not seem like it in the super act cute photo. haha
the campsite
its an old colonial building. scripture union campsite. i only took pics of the corridor, the dorm door and the bunk beds. heh. forgot to take pic of the whole building. so here it is :)

beach games
the beach games were really fun. the sun was shining, the sand was hot. and i became darker! yay!! started with the banana game. which gary and sengwee totally ruined. we had to interlock with a partner back to back. the kiap a banana between our legs and under our chin. gary and sengwee went first, which was a total mistake cos the squished the banana immediately. we had to kiap mashed up banana all the way after that. haha.
then it was the wormwars game. that game was really fun, if you didn't consider the violent guys. the team would form a row, with our hands on the shoulder of the person in front of you. then the head would have to try to catch the tail of the other team in order to eliminate them. if the chain was broken in any way, then the team would be disqualified too. to cut the long story short, the other team (which was sapphire, the team i was supposed to be in) decided since they couldn't catch our tail, they'd try to break our chain. their head was a super big guy. like tall and muscular. and our head was gary. who was well, relatively smaller and skinnier. he reached over and grabbed my hand and tried to pull me away!! if i wasn't holding on to dawn and if audrey wasn't holding on to me, i think i would've gotten flung out of the game area. then he changed his target to dawn. she's soooo small!! so poor thing. like kenna pull and manhandled la. we both had marks on our hands after :( but its fine la. all for the fun of it.
next we played dog and bone cum bible quiz. it was fine initially. then they started calling multiple numbers. sigh... so sad. when i grabbed the ball. a guy ran and totally hugged me!! hello! just tap can already!! wah. so heavy some more. i almost fell la! heh. and both me and dawn had abrasions after. the sand was hot and we both always let people step on our feet :(
then the tug of war. hilarious i tell you!! the rope kept breaking and breaking. it was a rope mind you, not string! those kinda real ropes. like those kinda ropes used to make that bridge at palawan beach. so funny. everyone fell into the water in the end.
then it was the water bombs. sigh. we had to protect dawn cos she was the one with the newspapers. so me and audrey came up with this seemingly fool proof plan by hugging her tightly. audrey at the back, me in the front. bad idea!! the waterbombs were painful la!! and they specifically said not to throw at the head/face. but the guys still did. pain la. like i suffered a concussion la. we were hugging for our lives.
night games
we were waiting in the hall for the night games to start. then suddenly there was a blackout and we were told to blindfold ourselves. all the ogls, camp com members etc all became so fierce. and kept asking us to shutup, keep quiet etc etc. apparently, we had to learn how the underground churches or christians in other countries who were persecuted were feeling. then we were brought to each stations blindfolded. our first station was going into this room, where they had a tribe of pple who's never heard of the gospel before and we had to spread the gospel to them. thing is, the room was small, so there was lotsa echo. we were blindfolded and the noise was pretty loud. so i was like shucks man. i cannot stand loud noise. so i kept quiet through the whole time. too scared to let go of audrey's hand though i know those people there were all fakes la. at the last part, apparently, we offended them and they all started screaming and shouting. it was sooooo loud i wanted to run out la. but didn't. sigh. the next station was worse. they brought us into this room, where it was supposed to be a torture cell. like chairs being thrown on to the floor. the sound of whacking, and people screaming. and clara woon! she kept poking me with this stick. i didn't know it was her though cos we were all blndfolded. but once again i was scared stiff cos everything was so loud! the screaming, shouting, whacking, chairs falling. overturnng of tables etc. my hands was glued to my ears and i used sooo much strength that my hands were shaking after. sigh.
then it was a bible verses remembering time. we had to list out as many bible verses from matthew mark luke john with the reference to learn that many christians overseas do not have the luxury of having a bible, or taking out the bible as and when they want it. this part of the game was fine. and we could take a good rest. the final station was hilarious. it was shawn's station. where it was a concentration camp and we had to transfer the sand from one bucket to another and then from that bucket back again. it was to experience the mental torture a concentration camp could bring upon someone. but shawn was trying to act fierce. and it backfired. cos it was soooo funny. and he kept calling me the girl in pink when i was wearing red. so i didnt respond and it was just too funny to continue. haha. i even asked if i could just bring the whole bucket over. heh.
mealtimes
the meals there were good leh. all homecooked food. cos i guess the campsite was too secluded. the caretakers of the scripture union campsite came and cooked for us every meal. the food was quite good. and i gained weight!! cos we kept eating and eating and eating. like little snacks biscuits etc. esp since 7-11 was only a walk down away. heh. but seriously, things there are sooooo over priced. dawn and i were saying that if we set up a mama shop there selling stuff that were cheaper than 7-11 price, but more than mainland singapore price, we'd be rich!! people would all buy from us than that super ridiculous 7-11. but i had no choice, cos i had choc and coke cravings throughout the camp. haha.
well, as you can see, all in all i had a superb superb time at camp. i really wanna thank god that i went for this camp. cos i can safely say, this camp is one of the camps that impacted me most. friends wise and spiritual wise! its always encouraging to see people so fervent for god and so enthusiastic in everything. i learnt to be more enthusiastic too. its contagious. making good christian friends before i venture into this new phase in life really is a great thing to do cos you just need that extra encouragement and comfort in knowing that there'll always be someone with the same beliefs as you and would be there for you. the vcf theme song is really a victorious one and seeing all of them singing it with such conviction and robust. i was really blown away. i've never seen such a thing before. its really great and hopefully, i'd make a decision to join vcf. :) i'll pray bout it.
