my dad asked whether i was interested in watching "the cove" and at first i said no, then i changed my mind, thinking tt it could be a good show. it was not good in a immensely good way.

The Cove is a documentary film about the ludicrous dolphin or cetacean industry in general. Whaling, dolphin massacres are what's in focus here. What happens is, the dolphin-murderers of taiji, japan, lure dolphins into the cove by surrounding the herd which travels along the migratory path with their trawlers, putting down a metal pole and banging on the pole with a hammer. the sound waves generated stresses and disorientates the dolphins, forming a sound barrier that prevents them from escaping their cruel fate. After driving the dolphins into the cove, nets are put into the water layer after layer to prevent even the slightest chance that a dolphin could escape. The dolphins are trapped there overnight. You can actually see the herd swimming in circles round and round, trying to protect their babies. By this time, the dolphins are immensely stressed out. Dolphin trainers and seaquarium authorities will then come and pick out the dolphins they want, manhandling them and bringing them back to the seaquarium. The 'rejects' are left to the mercy of the dolphin-murderers, who will tie ropes to the dolphin tails and drag them by boat to a smaller corner of the cove, out of sight from the town because it is surrounded by high terrains, and kill the dolphins by plunging a sharp metal rod in the dolphin over and over again until it dies. The dolphins struggle for their life, but who can survive that? The water in the cove turns blood red, like the plague in the bible, and suddenly, there is silence. no more cries of help.

The fishermen knew they were doing something wrong, something illegal, hence hiding behind the cove, not allowing cameras. and the authorities simply turn a blind eye. even their representative in IWC have been trying to overturn the whaling act that was implemented in 1986. he even insisted that dolphins are not under the whaling act even though they come from the same family. barbarians like these deserve to die.

there was a scene where a dolphin who was pierced managed to get free and tried swimming towards the shore. it even went over some of the nets but as it swam and came up the water to take breaths, pools of blood formed wherever it went. eventually, it came up for one last breath and it was never seen again. one of the activist was there, watching and she cried. the fishermen around were laughing and mocking her. how heartless are these people?

They used a hidden underwater camera to film the process of the killing. as the killing went on, the water went from clear blue to red. the sound waves went from maximum to nothing.

The dolphin meat industry isn't even in demand. people don't eat dolphin meat and yet they are still doing this because it is tradition, it is "pest control".

dolphins are the most intelligent animals on earth. they are friendly and lovable. they featured a surfer on the documentary whose live was saved by a dolphin who chased away a tiger shark that was just 2 metres away from him. it swam and the herd knocked the tiger shark away.

dolphins in captivity face the same fate: death. the main star of the show, Ric' O Barry, was once a famour dolphin trainer who trained the all famour "flipper" dolphins. one day, the dolphin he trained swam into his arms, took a last breath and decided to end its life because it just couldn't take the stress. Dolphins can decide to commit suicide if they want to by not taking a next breath just like whales commit suicide by swimming upshore. he decided from then on to focus on saving dolphins, freeing them from captivity and preventing their cruel death. like that in TAIJI, JAPAN.

know what's the best way to beat this?

1. DON'T EAT DOLPHIN/WHALE MEAT

2. DON'T BUY ANYTHING THAT IS A BYPRODUCT OF THESE KILLINGS

3. DON'T VISIT OR GO TO A SEA AQUARIUM

even the one that's going to be set up in singapore. i know i won't be going. so DON'T GO.

even the surfers try to do their part to save the dolphins, the surfer i mentioned saved by a dolphin is in the picture below. they were chased away by the fishermen and arrested, never allowed entry into taiji, japan again.
